Misuses of helmets

Release time:2024/8/21 14:00:41      Clicks:383

1. The lighter the helmet, the better

Relatively speaking, the lighter the helmet, the better. But the lighter the riding helmet, the less chance it will pass the national safety certification test standards, the higher the relative price will be. Therefore, the premise of choosing a helmet is to pass the national safety certification test standards, most of the helmets of more than 200 yuan can do about 260G, this weight will not make you feel tired even if the long distance, so do not care too much about the weight of the helmet indicators. Unless you're doing it for a bike race. Try to reduce your self weight, otherwise, it is not worth spending extra money to buy a super lightweight helmet.

2. The bigger or more holes in the helmet, the more ventilation

Breathability is key to a helmet that keeps your head dry on long rides. The more or larger the ventilation holes in the helmet, the more air will flow around your head and the cooler you will feel. However, keep in mind that the more or larger the ventilation holes in the helmet, the more your head is exposed, and therefore the degree of protection is reduced accordingly. Road bike helmets have more or larger ventilation holes than mountain bike helmets. Similarly, road cyclists have to consider the weight of their helmets more than mountain bikers. Generally speaking, the lighter the helmet, the more expensive it is. Therefore, unless you want to reduce your weight as much as possible in order to race your bike, it is not worth spending extra money on an ultra-lightweight bike helmet.

3. The small buckle and pull belt are related to life, the buckle and pull belt can not bear a certain force, it will break.

Everyone may only know that the riding helmet should do some impact tests, but the buckle and pull belt should also do the corresponding tensile test, if it does not pass the corresponding tensile test, it can not be used on the helmet. Therefore, a qualified riding helmet, small buckle and pull belt must pass the corresponding test, in order to be considered as a helmet in the true sense of meeting the national safety certification test standards.

4. Cracked helmet or overdue use

If it is cracked, do not use it, wear it is just a psychological comfort, there is not much substantive use, if the small knock small touch does not matter, but once the car falls, the force is large, it is not necessarily able to play a protective role. Do not underestimate a crack, it has changed the force and force effect of the helmet in the physical structure. The collapse of a bridge in Seoul in the 1990s May have been caused by a crack in a welded spot on one side of the bridge. To change the simple principle, you pull a brand new A4 paper from both ends, it may take some effort to pull off, but once you tear a small slit in the middle of the paper, then it is easy to pull off the paper.

Regardless of falls or collisions, riders should replace their helmets every three years. Because, although the helmet has not been crashed, but the sun exposure and sweat erosion will also make the helmet and some accessories aging, thus weakening the safety factor, damage the helmet protection performance.

5. Wear a helmet without a strap

It may feel more comfortable to unbuckle the helmet's jaw strap, but if the head is hit, it will easily bounce off, and naturally will not provide protection. So in order to play the protective role of the helmet, please wear the helmet jaw strap at all times.

6. Wear a helmet that is too wide or too narrow

If the helmet is the wrong size, it won't protect your head from a hit, so don't make the mistake of buying an improperly sized helmet. To determine the correct size of the helmet, place it around the largest part of your head (usually about 1 centimeter above your eyebrows) and purchase the helmet according to this measurement. Because helmets tend to come in small, medium, and large sizes, you may only be able to buy a relatively suitable size, and then use the size adjuster to rotate the button to achieve the best fit. After wearing the helmet, turn the helmet from one side to the other side, from the front to the back, feel whether it is comfortable to wear, if it is too loose or too tight, you need to continue to adjust or replace.

7. The use of inferior helmets in China helmet is not required certification

There are strict technical standards for the manufacture of helmets, and poor quality helmets often fail to meet safe collision avoidance standards, which will cause danger. Many riders may not know how to know whether the helmet they bought is safe, in fact, simply from the helmet is affixed with the CE certification mark can not determine whether the helmet is safe, but also must have the corresponding test report and certification certificate. CE marking certification is a certification for specific products, focusing on the safety characteristics of the product. It is a certification that reflects the conformity of the product to the requirements of public safety, health, environment and personal safety.

In China, riding helmets require certification. Before 2009, China did not have a complete standard for the safety of riding helmets. At that time, the "Safety requirements and experimental methods for sports helmets, bicycles, skateboards and roller skating sports helmets" jointly drafted by Cross-speed Helmets Co., Ltd. and some other enterprises were formally implemented in 2010, and then different versions of the national standard appeared.

However, in China, most of the helmets are still produced in accordance with the CE EN1078 standard, because most of the helmet manufacturers in China still export more, so the helmets bought in the Chinese market are basically CE EN1078 standards. Some pasted this CE mark, but not really sent to TUV, SGS certification, each product, different sizes should have the corresponding test report and certification, consumers must pay special attention to. Helmets without safety certification are dangerous.

Therefore, the helmets circulating in the Chinese market are not essential to have CE marking, but also have the corresponding test report and certification certificate, which can be regarded as a truly qualified helmet.

8. Wearing the wrong position

The most effective helmet position requires keeping the helmet and head level, and the helmet edge should be about 1 cm above the eyebrow. If it is not in this position, check that the helmet is the right size and adjust the regulator knob and jaw strap to ensure that the helmet is in the correct position.

9. Loose lacing

The loose strap makes the helmet jump and move at any time, and the protection effect is reduced when the head is hit by a secondary collision. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the length of the pull belt so that the distance between the pull belt and the chin is adjusted to the space of a finger gap, which can maximize the effective safety protection performance of the helmet.

10. Put your riding helmet away after use

After each use of the riding helmet, please put it in a cool and ventilated place to avoid high temperature or long-term sunlight exposure.
